serial #134920, .44 cal., 8" octagon barrel with a mint bore. This is a very handsome revolver which features lovely relief floral scroll engraving with punchdot shaded background. The top of the barrel and frame show sunburst and intertwined line border work that is very reminiscent of the Nimschke shop. The cylinder shows lovely loose relief scroll around its circumference and is clearly and properly numbered on the rear face "4920". The quality of the engraving work is superb and absolutely period. The barrel bears the proper three-line address with all markings remaining clear and legible. The barrel and frame are an even and very pleasing smooth gray color which is a mix of original silverplated finish which is slightly tarnished and a smooth gray patina where finish is missing. The cylinder retains about 50% original gold wash which is thinning evenly. The brass triggerguard is also engraved and retains about 35% original silver-plated finish overall. The two-piece ivory grips rate very good with typical age cracks but no chips. They fit good, with normal shrinkage, and have wonderful color and texture. The revolver shows little if any use, the bore is like a mirror and the nipples and nipple recesses remain completely free of pitting. This is a lovely engraved Remington New Model Army revolver with fabulous factory or period New York engraving. (18706-15) {ANTIQUE} (5000/7000) SOLD FOR $4,600.00
