serial #1261y, 9mm, 4" barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces of this 1941-dated police pistol retain about 97% mix of original and perhaps arsenal reapplied blue showing some high edge wear, light scratches and handling marks. The right side of the frame below the rail shows some old pitting that has been mostly polished away and re-blued but the serial number on the frame is crisp with raised metal around the numbers and all other markings are very sharp including the seven line Mauser banner on the toggle. The ejector has toned to the usual plum color and the barrel is also starting to tone to plum under bright light. The barrel is un-numbered and marked only with the bore diameter and an eagle proof on the front surface of the sight base. All other visible serialized parts are matching including the grooved firing pin, the sear safety is intact and there is a crisp "(Eagle) L" police stamp on the right side receiver. The checkered walnut grips are un-numbered but stamped with "(Eagle) / 655" Waffenamts on their interiors and they remain in very good plus condition showing some light staining and a few tiny chips. The pistol includes a correct "HAENEL SCHMEISSER PATENT" blue-bodied aluminum base magazine that is numbered to the gun along with a "3" and "(Eagle) C" stamp on the base. An excellent brown leather flap holster is also provided, unfortunately it is not a police example but is stamped with a crisp "(Eagle) / WaA195" and visible "P.08" and "dta / 41" markings. Finally included with this excellent grouping is a U.S. military capture certificate dated 26 September 1945 listing this pistol (as #1261) to a Staff Sergeant William P. Williams. A quick search of Sergeant Williams shows that he enlisted in 1942 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. Overall a superb grouping that would make an excellent addition to any advanced Luger collection.
