serial #C,37278, 50-70 CF, 35" round barrel with an about very good bore. This rifle is built on a New Model 1863 metallic cartridge converted action and shows matching numbers on its barrel and action. The barrel shows a pleasing even light gray patina overall with a few light impact marks to rear of lower band along with some patchy light oxidation staining in some areas. The action and lock show a slighty darker patina with generous amounts of faded original color case-hardened finish blended in protected areas. The lock gets darker toward the rear where the shooter's hand would contact the lock. All markings in metal remain clear and legible. The walnut buttstock and full length forend rate very good with a good deal of original oil finish remaining and with a series of light dull impact marks or bruises in the wrist area and some back in the meat of the stock; they are not overly obtrusive. The rifle is sighted with a stud front and folding military style ladder rear sights. This is a very nice example of these Springfield scarce manufactured Sharps rifles of which only 700 were made.
