serial #3219, 12 ga, 19 1/2" plain barrel choked improved cylinder with an about excellent bore which shows very sparse very light oxidation and perhaps some widely scattered very minor pinprick pitting. The barrel and magazine tube have faded to a dark gray-blue faded original blue patina which is toning to plum over much of its surface, the magazine tube with one area of light pitting. The nosecap has toned to plum and the receiver is plum and pewter patina with some sparsely scattered oxidation staining and some trace blue in the protected areas. The sliding grip support is a plum and pewter with some trace blue at its root at the receiver. The walnut straight grip buttstock, checkered walnut pistolgrip and checkered walnut forend all rate about very good with good original varnish and the expected minor handling marks and dings from the years, the forend showing a bit more wear. The gun seems to function well mechanically and features the "Burgess Gun Co." name and address on the bolt slide, the belly showing the serial number neatly engraved along with roll-marked patent dates. the Burgess gun Co. buttplate remains intact showing light wear and the gun seems to function well mechanically with only the very lightest play barrel-to-frame. A number of the screw slots show some light damage but they are unobtrusive and certainly could be dressed if one wished. There is a reproduction top-quality Burgess folding shotgun belt holster listed in the silent auction. Overall a very nice and very pleasing example of the late Burgess Gun Company folding shotgun.
