Description Update (5/31/18): Moderate chip right of frame

.58 cal., 40" barrel with a near very good bore. The lockplate is properly marked with Federal eagle and "U.S. / BRIDESBURG" ahead of hammer and is dated 1863 to rear of hammer. The barrel bears proper inspector's markings "V / P / (eaglehead)" and is also dated 1863. The barrel and lock bear a pleasing even gray patina overall with just the lightest of salt & pepper pitting confined to the bolster area and along the top edge of forestock; all markings remain clear and legible. The bolster itself is a little bit darker and the metal surfaces were likely very lightly and professionally cleaned long ago and are looking quite attractive. The walnut stock rates excellent with lots of original oil finish remaining, showing clean edges and two very crisp cartouches. The butt of the stock shows some figure but certainly not enough to prevent if from passing inspection. The musket is equipped with proper original sights and comes with its iron tulip shaped ramrod. A very nice example of the Bridesburg Civil War contract musket. (18752-94) {ANTIQUE} (1200/1800) SOLD FOR $1,725.00
