312. Early U.S. Model 1879 Trapdoor Rifle by Springfield Armory

serial #102388, 45-70, 32 5/8" barrel with an excellent bore. The barrel and bands retain 93% original blue with a couple spots of light freckling and some scattered minor flaking to brown. The breechblock and upper tang retain 97% original case colors with a few specks of freckling. The lockplate and hammer retain 95% original blue with scattered flaking to brown. The triggerguard and lower tang retain 85% original blue with a spot of light pitting, a large patch turning to gray, some flaking to brown and a couple light scratches on triggerguard. The buttplate retains 50% original blue with a patch of oxidation at top and overall flaking to gray. The walnut stock rates near excellent with an older added oil finish, a strong 1878 dated "ESA" circled cartouche, a crisp circled "P" firing proof, a few dings and handling marks. The rifle is equipped with an 1879 rear sight and a slotted cleaning rod. A high condition example of an early 1879 Trapdoor rifle. (208752-21) {ANTIQUE} (1800/2200) SOLD FOR $2,300.00
