serial #62278, 22 Long, 24" tapered octagon barrel with a fair bore which shows evident rifling but with pitting its full-length. The barrel is primarily a dark gray-blue fading original blue with wear to pewter on the high edges and contact points, with scattered light oxidation staining and the oddly scattered minor handling marks here or there; the magazine tube has toned to a plum. The receiver exhibits perhaps 50% original bright blue on the frame flats, the loss due to toning to plum and pewter, with overall very light scratches and handling marks and some light oxidation staining. The trigger retains some very strong trace pale fire temper blue and there is some very good color case-hardening remaining on the hammer. The left side marking of the Rampant Colt remains strong, these are usually light to begin with. The straight grip smooth walnut buttstock rates very good showing added finish and a repaired chip at the toe, however the checkered hard rubber Rampant Colt buttplate rates very good, its toe repaired neatly as well. The checkered forend rates about very good showing a repair to a full-length split, which appears to be well-done, retaining the very minor dings and handling marks that come from the years. The rifle is sighted with what appears to be its original blade front sight and a scant v-notch rear. A very attractive small frame Lightning overall, its frame blue actually appears better than it sounds, and would be an excellent candidate for a professional relining.
