serial #3182, 12 ga, 19 1/2" plain barrel choked improved cylinder with an about very good bore which shows light oxidation and light pitting its full-length. The barrel and magazine tube retaining perhaps 75% original blue, the loss is due primarily to fading and toning to plum brown, appearing stronger under normal ambient light. The nosecap has toned to plum and the receiver is a mix of plum brown and pewter with the expected minor handling marks from the years but with strong trace blue in the protected areas. The sliding grip support shows some toning to plum, light oxidation and a couple spots of very light pitting with some strong trace blue at its root at the receiver. The walnut straight grip buttstock, checkered pistolgrip and checkered forend all rate about very good with much original varnish, minor handling marks and dings from the years and the buttplate with a 1/2" chip missing at the toe. The gun seems to function well mechanically and features the "Burgess Gun Co." name and address on the bolt slide, the belly showing only the serial number neatly engraved. There are a few spots of very sparsely scattered very light pitting but they are unobtrusive. There is a reproduction top-quality Burgess folding shotgun belt holster listed in the silent auction. Overall a very nice and very solid example of a late production Burgess Gun Company folding shotgun. (38745-5) {C&R} (5000/7000) SOLD FOR $6,037.50
