41. Extremely Rare Burgess Gun Co. Factory Cutaway Demonstrator Shotgun

Click on images for enlarged versions.

serial #1447, 12 ga., 26" barrel, unchoked, with a mostly bright very good bore which shows scattered pitting its full length. The barrel, magazine tube and nosecap retain about 95% later blue, the nice damascus pattern slightly evident beneath the polishing. The magazine tube, receiver and pistolgrip support frame have all been nickel or chrome plated some years ago, the bolt cover and action plate still being blued (serial number is a somewhat light and there are remnants of light pits on the bottom receiver cover). The straight grip walnut buttstock and checkered forend rate very good plus with good original varnish and overall minor dings and handling marks from the years. The gutta-percha checkered pistolgrip rates about very good, is mostly smooth, and has only a small chip missing from its right rear edge. The receiver has been cutaway in the factory pattern to reveal the inner workings of these very interesting firearms. The rear cutaway window on the pistolgrip frame shows light borderline engraving around it, there normally would be a checkered thumbprint in this area which is not present due to the factory cut-away. The gun seems to function well mechanically and is an extremely interesting example and would be an indisposable acquisition for any collector or student of Burgess Gun Company arms. There is a reproduction top-quality Burgess folding shotgun belt holster listed in the silent auction. (38315-25 LTS355) {ANTIQUE} [Lewis T Steadman Collection] (2000/4000) SOLD FOR $1,840.00
