43. Fine Whitney Scharf Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle

serial #245, 44-40, 24" octagon barrel with full magazine and an excellent bore. This is a very nice and completely honest rifle which has an original case-hardened frame. The top of the barrel is marked with the "WHITNEY-ARMS-CO." address and the top tang is marked also with "WHITNEY ARMS CO. / PAT'D DEC. 21 1886." The barrel and magazine retain a smooth and even brown patina with perhaps 20% thin original blue showing. All markings in metal are crisp and legible as are edges. The action show a pleasing smooth and even brown patina with traces of faded original color case-hardened finish in protected areas. The plain walnut buttstock and forend rate excellent with over 90% original finish remaining and with just normal light handling marks. The rifle is sighted with a German silver blade Rocky Mountain front and standard open sporting rear sights. The stocks fit nicely and all edges remain crisp.
