serial #24639, 44 Russian, 6 1/2" ribbed round barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces are an overall plum brown and tarnished pewter gray patina with some trace original blue in the more protected areas. There are spots of light oxidation staining, very sparsely scattered, very light pinprick pitting and some minor dings and handling marks from the years. The checkered walnut grips rate good to perhaps about very good with the expected minor dings and handling marks from the years, overall flattened points and a slight shrinkage at their top edges where they meet the frame; there is no discernible number on their underside. The barrel-to-frame fit is excellent, the gun seems to time well and lockup properly, albeit slightly loosely. There may be an one or two very small areas of pitting which are slightly more moderate, one on the cylinder and one of the right side of frame. A salty but very good New Model No. 3 Smith overall which may still be usable for cowboy action after a thorough check by a competent gunsmith. (38737-3) {ANTIQUE} (1000/1500) SOLD FOR $977.50
