serial #773, 45-70, 29" barrel with a very good bore that shows a few pits. The metal surfaces are mostly a dull gray patina with the rear band being a silver pewter, the buttplate showing some light pitting, scattered oxidation staining and traces of original blue. The walnut stock rates good with an older added varnish, a rack number "67" on the right side of butt, a repair running from the right side of wrist to the magazine well, a couple further repairs on the left side, a couple chips, scattered dings and handling marks. This rifle falls into the second contract serial number range, the barrel is marked with an "P/WMF/(Anchor)" inspection mark, the front band and nosecap appear to be correct replacements. A very good example of a hard-to-find early Navy bolt action rifle. (208737-562) {ANTIQUE} [Dr. Louis C. March Jr. Collection] (1200/1800) SOLD FOR $1,380.00
