serial #2660635, 30-06, 24" 3-52 dated Springfield barrel with an excellent bore. The metal surfaces retain 80% arsenal parkerized finish with some silvering on the front end, a spot of parkerized-over pitting on the left side of the receiver and overall fading. The walnut stock rates very good with an added oil finish, a partially faded "DoD Eagle" cartouche, a crisp circled "P" firing proof, the beginnings of a chip at the rear of handguard, some flaking, scattered dings and handling marks. The parts appear to be mostly of Springfield Armory manufacture both wartime and postwar. The rifle is equipped with an M84 scope that has a fine post reticle and clear optics. The scope is fitted on an original mount, the scope is fitted with a sunshade and a rubber eyepiece with the latter showing scattered crackling. There is an undated K-Line brown leather cheekpiece present that may be later and it shows scattered crazing and dings. Also included is a GI canvas sling. This rifle has many features of a correct M1D sniper rifle but without documentation it is impossible to prove definitely. A fine example of these late production Garand sniper rifles.
