592. U.S. Model 1842 Percussion Navy Pistol by Ames

Click on images for enlarged versions.

.54 cal, 6" barrel with a lightly oxidized bore. The metal surfaces of this pistol are mostly bright with some spots of cleaned light pitting and small dings scattered throughout. The USN markings on the lockplate and barrel are still crisp and clear and both are dated 1844. The brass barrel band, triggerguard and butt disc are a lovely dark ocher patina showing just some small scattered dings. The smooth walnut stock remains in about very good condition having darkened from the years and showing some small chips, dings, a small repaired chip at the escutcheon, a couple small drying cracks here and there and handling marks. The remnants of a cartouche are just barely visible on the left side of the stock. The swiveling ramrod assembly is intact and the lock functions crisply at half and full cock. A very nice example of these early U.S. martial arms. (138783-44) {ANTIQUE} (800/1200) SOLD FOR $575.00
