serial #46249, 45 Colt, custom 7 5/8" barrel with an excellent bore. This gun has had an unmarked custom barrel installed with a barrel band front sight and is simply marked on the side with the number "45". Most of the finish loss is on the frame and cylinder with a small area around the front sight blade base from brazing. The metal surfaces retain about 85% original blue finish with the grip frame thinning to pewter and brown, thinning finish on the cylinder, high edge wear, freckling, handling marks and the usual turn ring on the cylinder. The smooth walnut factory grips are numbered to the gun and rate near excellent with a few light handling marks. Military acceptance marks and Colt factory marking remain crisp and include Sub-Inspector Renaldo A. Carr's inspection marks, acceptance mark of Major Walter G. Penfield and the Rampant Colt with stylized "C". There is a rework number on the cylinder and a "K" rework mark on the cylinder latch. The butt is U.S. Army marked with the same rack number as the serial number and the lanyard loop is present. This gun should make a fine shooter but most Model 1909's showed hard use and few retain as much condition as this one. A little searching for a barrel will turn it into a grand Model 1909.
