658. U.S. Model 1911A1 Semi-Auto Pistol by Remington Rand

serial #1964885, 45 ACP, 5" Colt barrel with a frosted bore. This gun has a Colt slide with no U.S. Army marking on the right side of the slide, no serial number under the firing pin stop and a proof mark on the top. The metal surfaces have later applied arsenal grade Parkerized finish that appears consistent although the smoother finish of early Colt slide gives it a slightly different shade. About 95% of the finish remains with light high edge wear, oxidation stains, old pitting under the new finish and other handling and operational marks. The grips are postwar checkered replacement Coltwood grips with circled Rampant Colt logo that rate very good to excellent with limited diamond point wear and handling marks. Colonel Frank J. Atwood's inspection mark is very strong as are the proof marks but the cross-cannon ordnance wheel is struck off center. Except as noted all parts on the frame and slide are correct for the era of manufacture but the rear sight appears to be a replacement. The pistol includes a single General Shaver magazine with welded base and seam on the back of the tube. A nicely refurbished 1944 Remington 1911A1. (88831-16) {MODERN} (700/900) SOLD FOR $1,207.50
