714. U.S. Model 1868 Trapdoor Rifle by Springfield Armory

serial #6624, 50-70 Govt, 32 1/2" barrel with a good bore that shows pitting and frosting along its length but evident rifling. The metal surfaces are mostly a dull brown patina with some scattered oxidation staining. The walnut stock rates very good as lightly refinished with an older added varnish, a pair of faint inspection stamps on the right side, a tight crack in front of lock, scattered dings and handling marks. There is a rack nmber of "25" on top of the buttstock and on the heel of the buttplate. The breech is marked "1869/(Eagle)/U.S." and the lock is dated 1863. The hammer appears to function and a slotted cleaning rod is present. A solid example of these early Trapdoor style rifles. (208809-230) {ANTIQUE} (700/900) SOLD FOR $575.00
