serial #365898, 16 ga., 28? barrels choked modified and full with bright about excellent bores which show some remnants of very light pitting in the right tube, the left with just a bit nearer the forcing cone. The barrels are an overall plum brown patina showing evidence of being lightly polished and perhaps refinished many years ago, there have been light wedges of added, very loose open scroll and filigree at the breeches. The Sterlingworth frame and forend iron are a silvery gunmetal patina with all markings remaining crisp. The arm has been restocked in American walnut and is now straight-grip with rather pronounced comb flutes and borderless checkered panels left and right and a semi-beavertail style forend which is near fully checkered, the craftsman still in the fledgling stages of his stock-building career. Both rate very good plus with only light handling marks and dings from the years, the buttplate somewhat imprecisely fitted. Length of pull to the grooved hard rubber buttplate is 14? with drops of 1 3/8? and 2 3/8?. Lockup is tight with the top lever still right of center showing the faintest sliver of light between the left tube?s breech and the standing breech. The original safety has been replaced with a very large, very coarsely grooved button, it is non-automatic. Likely a very good Fox for fall birds. (38856-5) {MODERN} (400/600) SOLD FOR $661.25
