30" double edge blade, 35" overall length. The blade is beautifully etched with foliate scroll and "Medical Staff" on the obverse side and panoply of arms on the reverse side, there is no visible maker mark on the ricasso. The blade remains overall bright with scattered light pitting and tiny scratches particularly along the foible and some sparse fine staining. The cast brass hilt shows Federal eagle in circle panel on both sides of the grip and embossed "MS" above six stars in a foliate border on the obverse langet. The brass has a lightly mellowed ocher patina with good amounts of original gold wash in the protected areas. The components have loosened slightly with age and only remnants of the buffer washer remain. The brass scabbard is decorated with a foliate center band, tip chape and collar and has a mellowed reddish-ocher patina and a tiny dent at the tip of the chape. A very good unmarked Medical Staff sword, possibly an import. (58764-3) (500/700) SOLD FOR $862.50
