.69 Cal, 40" barrel with an oxidized bore. The metal surfaces have been lightly cleaned to a silver-gray patina with a couple spots of light pitting most of which are in the breech area. All of the metal markings remain crisp with the firing proof being a bit soft. The walnut stock rates very good as lightly cleaned with a small repaired chip behind upper tang, the beginnings of a small crack behind lockplate, no remnants of stock markings and a few handling marks from the years. Both the lockplate and upper tang are dated 1851, the swivels and a tulip shaped ramrod are present. An about very good example of these late production smoothbore muskets.
