143. Whitney Kennedy Large Caliber Saddle Ring Carbine

Click on images for enlarged versions.

serial #E588, 45-60, 22" round barrel with full magazine and an excellent bore. This carbine features the "WHITNEYVILLE ARMORY" address without the name "KENNEDY" and has an "S" shaped lever. The barrel retains about 70% original blue overall with some scattered light surface oxidation present, the magazine tube is more brown but looks nice. The action shows a pleasing even gray brown patina with perhaps a scant trace of original finish in the most protected areas. Screw slots show slight wear and there are a few light scratches on the action. The plain walnut buttstock rates very good with about 75% original finish remaining and just normal light handling marks. The forend appears to be a nice quality later replacement and the barrel bands may also be replacements and neither one has its retaining screw present. The barrel is indeed numbered to the carbine so that is clearly original. The carbine is sighted with a standard carbine stud front sight and folding carbine ladder rear. Whitney Kennedy saddle ring carbines are quite scarce, this example just needs a little help. (18315-122LTS483) {ANTIQUE} [Lewis T. Steadman Collection] (1500/2000) SOLD FOR $4,025.00
