serial #261, 303 British, 21'' barrel with a good plus bore that shows scattered oxidation and pitting but evident rifling. The metal surfaces of this 1901-dated rifle retain 40% of an armory refurbished blue finish with a couple small spots of blued over light pitting, some small spots of moderate pitting along the barrel, a small spot of light dings on receiver and overall fading to brown. The walnut stock rates very good plus as lightly cleaned with an older added varnish and scattered handling marks. The barrel is matching to the receiver and the bolt appears to be mismatched. The rear band is marked ''NZ/222/1901'', the brass stock disc appears to be marked ''32 12/128'' and the receiver is marked ''DP'' indicating drill purpose use. These carbines were made to utilize the Pattern 1888 sword bayonet and only 1500 of these carbines were made for the New Zealand Mounted Rifles during the Second Boer War. An original leather sling and two written histories of this model carbine are included. Please note that there is a correct bayonet for this carbine in the silent auction. A solid example of a hard-to-find carbine that will make a great addition to any military collection. (208919-1) {C&R} (1200/1800) Sold For 1265.00
