serial #318897, 30-06, 24'' 3-10 dated Springfield barrel with an about good bore that shows several patches of pitting and oxidation but evident rifling. The barreled action retains 80% original blue with flaking to brown along the edges and some light oxidation on bolt. The bands are a mottled brown patina with some minor dings. The bottom metal is turning to a brown patina with scattered traces of original blue. The single-bolt walnut stock rates very good as lightly refinished with an older added varnish, a strong boxed ''JFC'' cartouche, a strong circled ''P'' firing proof, a rack number ''36'' on top of butt, a few stain spots, scattered dings and handling marks. The parts all appear to be correct for the time period with the straight handled bolt having a punchmark on the underside, the handguard being the correct type and the rear sight having a volley notch. As with all low numbered 1903 rifles no thought should be given to the loading or firing of this arm. A very good example of a pre-World War One 1903 Springfield for your military collection.
