serial #5946, 38 Long Colt, 6'' barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces of this Navy contract revolver retain about 70% original blue toning to gray patina overall with small spots of pinprick pitting, scratches and dings scattered about. The hammer and trigger are a smooth silvery gray patina. All of the markings are still clearly visible, the barrel is not marked with a caliber designation and the butt is stamped with U.S. Navy markings, anchor, Navy number ''979'' and inspector markings ''CAB''. The un-numbered checkered walnut grips are of the correct style and remain in very good condition showing overall dings and worn points. The barrel is matching the frame by serial number but the frame, crane and cylinder are all different assembly numbers and the barrel, frame and cylinder are stamped with an ''I'' in a star. The action seems to function very well with solid timing and lockup. This is a very nice example of these desirable revolvers delivered in a contract of just one thousand units.
