serial #2771, .31 cal, 4 1/2'' five-barrel cluster with about very good bores showing some light oxidation and strong rifling. This is a wonderful example, the barrels retaining over 95% original brown finish now toning to an attractive plum-brown showing some light high edge wear and a few spots of minor pinprick pitting. The frame retains perhaps 15-20% original bright blue, the balance toned to a nice light gray-brown patina. The cocking ring and trigger retain about 40% original bright blue toning to a similar light gray patina as the frame. The ribbed barrel cluster and frame are lightly embellished with tasteful factory foliate scrollwork and the markings along the barrel are crisp and clear. The smooth walnut grips are stamp-numbered to the gun and remain in excellent condition retaining nearly all of their original finish with just a couple minor handling marks. This example has the pronged barrel cluster that simply lifts off the frame when the latch is unlocked. The period mahogany case is quite nice and retains almost all of its original finish showing scattered scratches and light dings, with a shield-shaped brass lock escutcheon, no key is present and the lid shows some slight warping. The interior blue baize shows some light staining throughout and all of the compartments except one are occupied, the vacant compartment likely having held a bullet mould. Included are a japanned tin of Eley caps showing a flaking sticker and a number of caps, small eagle powder flask in near excellent condition, C & JW Hawksley oiler and a combination jag / tool that retains some bold case-hardened colors. This is a very fine example seldom seen cased and with such nice condition. (138863-1) {ANTIQUE} (5000/7000) Sold For 5175.00
