1265. Whitney Kennedy Small Caliber Lever Action Rifle

serial #R129, 38-40, 24'' octagon barrel with full magazine and an about good bore showing moderate pitting and fairly strong rifling throughout. This is an interesting rifle that evidently started out life as a carbine and was likely factory-converted into rifle configuration, the saddle ring now replaced with a large screw. The metal surfaces are mostly a mottled gray-brown patina showing some spots of light pitting, small dings and scratches scattered throughout along with one small spot of more moderate tool marks left of the rear sight dovetail. The rear sight leaf still retains some hints of fire blue and the markings are clear with the two-line Whitney Kennedy address marking on the barrel. The plain walnut stocks remain in very good condition with strong original finish on the buttstock, a few minor cracks near the toe and edges of the forend, small scratches, dings and handling marks. The rifle is sighted with a semi-buckhorn rear sight and German silver blade front and the action seems to function well mechanically. A very solid example in a rare caliber.
