1267. Early Whitney Kennedy Small Caliber Lever Action Rifle

Click on images for enlarged versions.

serial #729, 44-40, 24'' octagon barrel with full magazine and an about good bore showing darkness in the grooves, light oxidation and good rifling throughout. The barrel of this early rifle is marked only ''KENNEDY'' along with the caliber designation and the metal surfaces have toned to a dark gray-brown patina showing some scattered dings, light tool marks and minor pinprick pitting throughout. A couple of the screws are later replacements and most show some moderate slot damage while all of the markings are still quite clear. The plain walnut stocks remain in about very good condition as lightly cleaned long ago showing a few thin drying cracks around the edges of the buttstock, a 2 3/8'' old smoothed-over sliver missing from the right side edge of the forend, scattered dings and handling marks. The rear sight is a period gunsmith replacement simple flattop with a thin v-notch, the front is a rather worn German silver blade and the action is functional although the lever locks up a little loosely. This early Whitney Kennedy certainly has a lot of character. (138315-82LTS145) {ANTIQUE} [Lewis T. Steadman Collection] (1000/1500) Sold For 1092.50
