serial #R538, 38-40, 24'' octagon barrel with full magazine and an oxidized bore showing some evident rifling. The metal surfaces of this rifle are mostly toned to a mottled dark gray patina showing light pitting, moderate dings and tool marks throughout. There is a 5/8'' thin crack in the frame at the right side edge, a number of the action screw heads have broken off, there is one added screw at the upper tang, one screw at the lower tang is missing and the lever locking tab is a more modern reproduction. The name ''D.K. Armstrong'' is lightly inscribed on the right side, no doubt during the period of use. The plain walnut stocks remain in good condition having darkened from the years showing just a couple thin drying cracks along the edges of the buttstock, a thin hairline crack extending up the length of the forend on the bottom, some small chips, dings and handling marks scattered about. The rifle is sighted with the typical sporting rear sight, the front sight is a vintage replacement small German silver blade and the action is functional although the bottom lifter plate is a little loose. A good ''example'' piece in a rare caliber. (138315-71LTS53) {ANTIQUE} [Lewis T. Steadman Collection] (800/1200) Sold For 977.50
