serial #Q733, 38-40, 20 1/2'' shortened octagon barrel with corresponding shortened half magazine and a fair bore showing moderate pitting and good rifling throughout. The barrel and magazine tube of this rifle have been quite competently shortened no doubt long ago and the rifle also shows a number of more modern professional repairs. The metal surfaces are mostly a medium gray-brown patina showing some scattered small dings, tool marks and light pitting here and there. Some of the screws may be replacements and most show moderate slot damage. The markings have softened but remain mostly visible and there are faint remnants of original blue still present in the more protected areas of the barrel and action. The top cover is a quality custom-made reproduction part, the hammer spur has been reattached and shows rudimentary checkering and the frame evidently was originally a carbine frame, the sling swivel stud now replaced with a large screw. The plain walnut stocks remain in good condition, the buttstock lightly cleaned while the forend shows some rather nice figure throughout. There is a 3 3/4'' thin crack at the bottom of the forend, the buttstock is a little shy of the metal and shows some small chips, dings and a small crack at the upper tang. The lever locking tab is missing, the rifle is sighted with a semi-buckhorn rear that is missing its right half and German silver blade front that has been set back into a new dovetail and the mechanism functions well mechanically. An interesting little rifle also in a rare caliber. (138315-126LTS501) {ANTIQUE} [Lewis T. Steadman Collection] (800/1200) Sold For 1265.00
