1285. Whitney Burgess Morse Third Model Lever Action Rifle

serial #1392, 45-70, 28'' round barrel with full magazine and an oxidized bore showing some areas of good rifling. This rifle will require some work as it is missing its forend, magazine follower, magazine spring, firing pin and one screw on the left side frame. The barrel and magazine tube retain perhaps 20% original blue mostly remaining where the forend would be, the balance of the metal surfaces lightly cleaned to gunmetal showing some scattered oxidation staining, scratches, tool marks and a thin crack forming at the top right edge of the frame near the top cover rail. The markings have softened but are still mostly legible, the Morse markings appropriately read to the left and the top cover is curiously lacking a gas vent hole. The plain walnut buttstock remains in about good condition as refinished long ago showing a couple thin drying cracks scattered about, some moderate abrasions and handling marks. The rifle is sighted with the standard sporting rear, German silver blade front and the action seems to function well mechanically. (138315-27LTS503) {ANTIQUE} [Lewis T.
