serial #335588, 45 Colt, 7 1/2'' barrel with a bright about excellent bore which shows only a couple spots of extremely light oxidation near the muzzle and perhaps a few very light pinprick pits. A lovely revolver, appearing to be the work of Cuno Helfricht himself, but clearly from his shop. The barrel retains perhaps 75% original blue, the balance faded to a very pleasing smooth pewter patina with a smattering of very light handling marks from the years. There is nice open flowing scroll with background punch-dot shading and geometric engraving on the barrel for 2 1/2'' and along the recess of the ejector rod housing. The cylinder is a pleasing smooth tarnished pewter gray patina with a darker gray within the flutes showing faded original blue. The high radii of the cylinder show a mix of open loose scroll and intertwined geometric engraving with a similar wavy dot and riband pattern around the circumference at its rear, identical to examples identified to the master himself. The frame shows the same quality loose open flowing scroll with geometric engraving on both recoil shield and loading gate. The frame itself retains perhaps 95% original color case-hardening which is muting to a silvery case-hardened patina in spots, the hammer showing strong case colors on the front edges of its flats. Triggerguard and frontstrap have toned to a deep pleasing tarnished pewter patina with some generous trace original blue atop the backstrap, both with light geometric engraving. All of the numbers are matching and the gun seems to operate well mechanically. The revolver wears a lovely pair of factory carved mother-of-pearl grips with sunken brass Rampant Colt medallions, the left medallion with traces of its original silver plate. The grips themselves remain in very fine to near excellent condition with the oft-seen age cracks along the base of the butt but they are otherwise un-flaked, un-chipped. The included factory letter shows shipment in April 1917 to Praeger Hardware Company in San Antonio Texas, confirms barrel length, blued finish and factory engraved with carved steer head pearl grips. An absolutely super Texas-shipped revolver that clearly saw a bit of use but was very well cared for. (38937-30) {C&R} [Cletus Klein Collection] (20,000/30,000) Sold For 25300.00
