serial #390, 12 bore, 31'' barrels with nice bright bores. This is a high-grade double gun which features spectacular engraving. The execution of the scroll and game scene work is truly magnificent. The locks show relief floral scroll with English setter flushing a bird on the left and a pointer with flushing bird on the right. The hammers show full coverage tight relief scroll with noses showing lovely fish-like motifs and each lock is engraved ''GEO. LofLEY''. The top tang and breech section of rib show very tight full coverage relief scroll with double silver bands on rib and the name ''T. BUNNEY'' engraved on inlaid silver field. The top of the barrel rib is engraved ''GEorGE LofLEY. MAKER. 37 1/2 GALLOWTREE GATE LEICESTER'' and the breeches show platinum blow out plugs. The iron furniture consists of the triggerguard, wedge escutcheons and the tailpipe, all of which show full coverage scroll, with the triggerguard bow showing a pair of beautifully executed gun dogs. The condition of the gun is nice with the barrels retaining 95% of a very nice quality and old restored brown finish with strong damascus pattern visible their entire lengths. The locks show about 30 - 40% original color case-hardened finish with the balance bearing a pleasing smooth brown patina. The triggerguard retains about 60% bright original blue with the areas of loss showing a lovely smooth gray patina. The checkered straight grip stock is of English walnut and shows fabulous figure through the butt with nice straight grain through the wrist. The stock rates very good with lots of original finish, some added light oil and lightly worn checkering. The stock wears its original checkered horn shotgun buttplate which remains in excellent condition with no moth damage. The original brass tipped ebony cleaning rod is present. A wonderful British double gun which is a great example of the kind of craftsmanship that was coming out of Britain in the mid-to-late 19th century.
