1468. 'Condemned'' U.S. Model 1870 Navy Rolling Block Rifle by Springfield Armory

50-70, 32 5/8'' barrel with a very good bore that shows some scattered oxidation and pitting but strong rifling. The metal surfaces are an overall silvery-gray patina with scattered small dings and oxidation stain spots. The walnut stock rates very good with a chip on the left side of buttplate, a couple small chips in ramrod channel and the expected handling marks that come with the years. This rifle has the rear sight that was placed 1/2'' in front of the frame and for this reason this rifle was rejected by the U.S. Navy. It is believed that these condemned rifles were purchased by the French and used during the Franco-Prussian War. An interesting Rolling Block rifle for the military collector.
