serial #45571, 12 ga., 28'' Krupp fluid steel barrels choked a light full in both with bright excellent bores, the left tube showing some very light remnants of two tiny dings. The barrels retain 98% plus excellent quality restored blue finish, there being sparsely scattered remnants of light pitting left behind here and there. There is light engraving on the flowing bolster extension and lovely small swirls of open scroll left and right with thin bands at the breech and a lovely engraved the dolls head. The frame and lockplates are a smooth pleasing tarnished pewter patina with the tiniest bit of oxidation staining on the forward carry point at the belly of frame area. The lovely tight flowing scroll and banknote filigree remains crisp with gamebird vignettes left, right and belly, the Lefever Arms Company name on each lockplate and game dogs on point in oval vignettes left and right. The fences are neatly chiseled in shamrock motifs and there is a pointing gun dog on the bow of the guard as well. The checkered capped pistolgrip English walnut buttstock rates about excellent as professionally refinished, the checkering very nicely chased, with the forend similar, showing a few remnants of light dings. The double triggers show traces of their original gold wash, more prominent on the cocking indicators. The length of pull to the hard rubber Lefever Arms Company checkered buttplate is 14 5/8'' with drops of 1 5/8'' and 2 3/4''. The arm locks up tightly with the top lever still left of center and barrels on-face and arm features automatic safety, double triggers and ejectors; they are weak if only one is tripped at a time, they are robust if both barrels are fired. The barrels are very thick overall; this may be an excellent candidate for a high-grade field gun after an inspection by a competent 'smith. A lovely quality high-grade Lefever.
