270. Superb Winchester Model 1873 Special Order Short Rifle

serial #640557B, 44 WCF, 20'' round barrel with full magazine and bright as-new bore. This rare little rifle is in a remarkable state of preservation. The barrel and magazine show 97% plus strong original blue finish overall. The action retains 96% original blue with most loss due to some superficial scratches and a little light flaking where the metal is a rich brown patina. The hammer and lever retain vivid original color case-hardened finish and the loading gate nearly all of its original fire blue. This is a 1910 production rifle and the barrel and action show crisp and proper Winchester proofmarks. The brass cartridge lifter shows a wonderful, rich untouched patina. The plain walnut stocks rate excellent plus retaining 98% original finish with just a few scattered light handling marks here or there. The original three-piece iron cleaning rod remains present in butt compartment. The nosecap shows about 95% bright original blue while the buttplate shows all of its original color case-hardened finish which has faded slightly overall. The rifle is sighted with standard open sporting sights. A truly remarkable, investment quality Winchester 1873 in a rare, special order configuration.
