serial #657, 16 ga. by 8x57JRS, 23 1/2'' Krupp Stahl barrels choked modified in both, all with bright excellent bores. The barrels retain about 97% original blue showing some very light muzzle wear and some even fading, primarily on the underside of the rifle barrel ahead of the sling swivel. The barrels show very light engraving at the breeches and on the rib extension. The Duralum frame has had its high edges cleaned to bright with the original dark anodizing within the recesses of the engraving giving a very nice contrasting bright and dark blue appearance. The frame is overall engraved in an open oak leaf and acorn pattern with geometric borderline. The bone triggerguard rates about excellent showing a very old, well-done repair at its front root. The checkered European walnut capped pistolgrip buttstock rates excellent as professionally refinished, the forend is similar, both with very nicely chased checkering. The wood now has a very pleasing red-russet hue, the buttstock featuring a scalloped bone pistolgrip cap and rounded left side shadowline cheekpiece. The length of pull to the smooth horn buttplate is 13 1/8'' with drops of 1 1/2'' and 2 1/4''. The arm is sighted with a simple bead front sight with an additional flip-up lowlight ''moon'' sight (the white enamel has chipped out of the brass lollipop) and an automatic flip-up rear when rifle barrel is actuated. Additionally the rib has been fitted with dual claw bases which mount a Lyman All-American 2 1/2X telescopic sight with post and crosshair reticle and bright optics. The arm features double triggers, the front being a single set, Greener safety and cocking indicators. Lockup is tight with the top lever just beginning to drift left of center and the gun seems to function well mechanically. Proofed in April 1939.
