serial #K0249, 7mm Mauser, 20'' custom part octagon part round barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces on this beautiful rifle retain about 99% custom maker blue and French gray finishes. The bolt body remains bright with lovely blue on the extractor, the receiver races honed bright. This fine rifle was built by three masters in their fields, Creighton Audette being the metalsmith, Winston Churchill executing the stunning engraving, and Bob Winter being the stock maker. The rifle is stocked classic style in a lovely grade of French walnut, full-length in a Mannlicher pattern with a very nice left side rounded shadowline cheekpiece and a semi-schnabel fish-lip halfway down the forend. The stock rates as-new and has flawlessly executed checkered panels at the grip with mullered borders and an equally beautiful wrap-around pattern at the forearm. The rifle features very nice Talley-style inletted sling swivels, skeleton blued steel pistolgrip cap with light engraving, all with nicely registered fire blued screws, lightly engraved. There is a lightly engraved skeleton Niedner-style steel buttplate providing a 13 5/8'' length of pull. The barreled action has nice sprays of excellent quality open flowing foliate scroll at the breech, each panel of the receiver ring, and side rail, the blued steel nosecap neatly engraved as well. The sporting bolt handle shows some sprays of light engraving as does the bolt shroud with lovely floral engraving on the knob. The bottom metal is stunning and is finished French gray, engraved with the highest quality open flowing foliate Germanic-style scroll with an exquisite chiseled-in-relief bighorn sheep inlaid in gold at the center of the hinged floorplate. The bow of the guard is similar with lovely intertwined monogrammed initials ''RWL'', perhaps signifying RL Wilson (?), the arm certainly is of the caliber one would expect from R.L.'s collection. The quality of the engraving is absolutely world-class and is signed on the floorplate by Winston Churchill. The rifle is sighted with a brass bead front sight atop a sporting ramp with engraved side panels, single folding leaf express-style rear sight, and the receiver ring has been drilled and tapped for quick release Warne-style bases which support 1'' steel dual lever rings which are also very neatly engraved with light scroll that matches precisely that of the receiver. Additional metalwork includes a very nice checkered thumbpiece added to the bolt stop and a Winchester Model 70-style wing safety. A nice Canjar trigger has been fitted for a crisp clean let off. The receiver ring is signed by its artisans, with Audette being on the left, Winter on the right. An absolutely superb rifle wanting for nothing in detail or execution of workmanship.
