429. Winchester Model 1895 Flat Side Rifle

Click on images for enlarged versions.

serial #1845, 30 U.S., 28'' round barrel with a very near excellent bore. The barrel retains about 75% original blue finish with loss due to even thinning overall. The action, magazine and lever show a blue brown patina overall with scattered very fine pinprick pitting. The hammer shows some old original faded color case hardened finish. The plain walnut buttstock and forend rate very good with lots of original finish and with nice surfaces. The rear tang screw is a replacement, and is for a tang sight making it too long and the head too small. The rifle is sighted with a German silver blade front mounted in integral ramp and a simple open sporting rear. This is a good solid example of these early and most handsome Winchester 1895 rifles.
