serial #77362, 45-70 Govt, 24'' octagon barrel with a good to near very good bore which shows evident rifling its full-length but with scattered light oxidation and pitting. The metal surfaces on this beautifully restored rifle retain about 98-99% excellent quality hot immersion blue and color case-hardened finishes. The barrel remains crisp with some very scant traces of light pitting or handling marks beneath, the magazine tube showing a couple more minor impact marks. The nosecap, receiver and lever show some flaking protective varnish which has left the exposed metal very lightly oxidized, but not to the detriment of the rifle. The checkered walnut pistolgrip buttstock with ebony pistolgrip inlay rates very good plus as professionally refinished, showing very handsome grain in the buttstock. The forend as well is similar, both showing professionally chased checkering. Both buttstock and forend show some restoration to light chips or cracks with neatly spliced-in wood, most of which is camouflaged so well one misses it at first glance. The markings within the top tang inletting are lost to the years however the lower tang is marked ''47XX'' and the interior of the toe of the buttplate is also marked ''47''. The rifle has a simple German silver blade front sight and ladder style rear, and functions very well mechanically, the hammer spring being somewhat weak and the half-cock notch is worn, but these are likely easily rectifiable issues if one wished. Overall a very handsome example of what is likely an original Deluxe 1886 in a very desirable caliber, perhaps an excellent candidate for a professional re-lining.
