serial #148304, .44 Henry RF, 20'' barrel with a fair to perhaps good bore which does show evident rifling but with pitting its full-length. The barrel and magazine tube are very pleasing, primarily smooth tarnished pewter patina, with smatterings of light oxidation staining and pewter undertones, the front sight-band is similar while the rear band shows a very light cleaning and is more of a pewter tone. The receiver has a lovely tarnished goldenrod patina, the engraving very beautifully-done, remaining crisp and emulating Ulrich's patterns with exquisite open flowing scroll and floral decoration with background punch-dot shading and game scene vignettes. Right we see the oft-seen magnificent ''stag of the woods'' along with a hunting dog on point while the left shows the wily mister fox and a white tail buck deer amidst a woodland scene. The loading gate is a deep dark blue-gray with the hammer showing a mottled silvery and plum brown case-hardened patina with light oxidation staining. The lever and trigger are pleasing smooth plum brown as well with a few spots of light oxidation. The buttplate tang has been neatly engraved as well and both the buttstock and forend rate excellent as neatly, very carefully refinished, the tangs being only very slightly proud in spots. Beneath the buttplate we find an original steel three-piece cleaning rod showing only some very light remnants of oxidation or light pitting. A very beautifully upgraded 1866 Carbine which very closely emulates the wonderful engraving patterns of John Ulrich. (39015-9) {ANTIQUE} (6000/8000) Sold For 11500.00
