serial #50671, 32-20, 26'' octagon barrel with full magazine and a fair bore showing moderate oxidation, strong rifling and a bulge at the muzzle. The metal surfaces of this rifle are mostly a mix of dark gray and plum-brown patina with small tool marks and freckling scattered about. There are still some strong remnants of original blue on the sides of the action and protected areas of the barrel. The Colt address, patent and caliber markings on the barrel are all clearly legible and the Rampant Colt on the left side of the action is a little soft but visible. Most of the screw heads on the action show some slot damage and the forend screws still retain nice fire blue. The plain walnut buttstock and checkered forend remain in very good condition showing some older added finish, a filler repair and thin crack at the toe, worn checkering and a few thin cracks on the forend. This rifle is sighted with a rare early Lyman tang sight, German silver blade front, there is a slot blank in the rear sight dovetail and the action seems to function well mechanically. An honest example overall featuring a rare period sight. (138737-524) {ANTIQUE} [Dr. Louis C. March Jr. Collection] (1200/1800) Sold For 1610.00
