.58 cal, 39'' barrel with a moderately oxidized bore showing only traces of rifling. The barrel shows an older coating of a black enamel which has flaked over perhaps 40% of the surface revealing a soft brown patina beneath, with British proofs still evident at the left side radius. The bands are an overall soft brown patina with the lockplate a mixture of pewter and brown showing some silvery case-hardened remnants. The brass hardware has toned to a dull ochre patina, the buttplate with a prominent ding at its toe. The stock rates about very good as lightly cleaned many years ago retaining remnants of overall light dings and handling marks with a chipped area at the toe showing a synthetic repair. The stock makers name ''Woodward & Sons'' is still faintly evident along the toeline as-is the remnants of a British acceptance stamp. The lock does function mechanically and what may be an original ramrod is in place. (38783-29) {ANTIQUE} (1000/1500) Sold For 747.50
