.58 Cal, 40'' barrel with an excellent bore. The lockplate is properly marked with a Federal Eagle and ''U.S. NorFOLK'' in front of the hammer and an 1863 date behind the hammer. The barrel has the correct ''VP/(Eagle)'' inspection marking and it is also dated 1863 The metal surfaces remain mostly bright likely having been lightly cleaned at some point with scattered spots of oxidation staining. The Federal Eagle and ''VP/(Eagle)'' markings appear a bit faint but all other markings are strong. The walnut stock rates very good with strong edges, an older added varnish, a partially faded ''W.W. WELCH/NorFOLK, CT'' inspector's marking, a faint inspection cartouche, a few dings and the expected handling marks from the years. The gun features its original sights and a tulip shaped ramrod. A very good 1861 contract musket for the Civil War collector. (209040-8) {ANTIQUE} (1000/1500) Sold For 1150.00
