.58 Cal, 40'' barrel with an excellent bore. This musket is in nice condition overall. The lockplate is marked ''U.S./COLT'S PT F.A. MFG CO/HARTForD CT'' ahead of the hammer and it is dated 1863 behind it. The barrel is also dated 1863, it is marked ''V/P/(Eagle)'' and with the inspector's initials ''W.P.''. All markings remain crisp, the metal surfaces remain mostly bright overall with a couple small spots of light pitting. The walnut stock rates near excellent as lightly-cleaned with slightly rounded edges, a pair of crisp inspector's cartouches, a couple small chips in the ramrod channel and a couple handling marks. The rear band is loose and will need mechanical attention to tighten. The lock is functional, the rifle is equipped with a two-leaf long-range rear sight and what is likely the original ramrod. A very nice example of these Colt-made Civil War muskets. (208817-37) {ANTIQUE} (2000/3000) Sold For 1955.00
