serial #20495, 44-40 WCF, 24'' round barrel with button magazine and a bright near excellent bore showing some light pits in the grooves and strong rifling throughout. The special order features of this rifle are the button magazine. Additionally the rifle is also equipped with a period Vernier-style tang rear sight and globe target front sight. The metal surfaces of this first model are mostly a dark plum-brown patina throughout showing evidence of having been refinished long ago with remnants of old pitting scattered about. The barrel markings are rather soft and a few of the screws are more modern replacements. The nosecap and buttplate retain about 90% old nickel finish with light flaking to gray-brown. The plain walnut stocks remain in very good condition showing a couple of thin drying cracks at the edges of the forend, spots of oil soaking, light dings and overall darkening from the years. The dustcover is intact, the rear sight dovetail is filled in with a blank and the action seems to function well mechanically. An interesting rifle with a remarkably good bore.
