serial #142780, .31 cal, 5'' octagon barrel with an about good mostly bright bore showing a few patches of moderate pitting and strong rifling. The barrel of this revolver has mostly toned to dark gray patina showing some pinprick pitting at the high edges, small tool marks around the wedge and some strong streaks of original bright blue on the left side. The remaining metal surfaces are a lighter gray patina with the cylinder still showing a good stagecoach scene, the New York barrel address and patent markings on the frame and cylinder are legible and some of the screw heads retain some faint fire blue. The brass backstrap and triggerguard are quite nice and retain about 96% silver finish showing some very minor flaking and attractive tarnishing overall. The smooth one-piece walnut grip is ink-numbered to the gun and remains in near excellent condition retaining almost all of its original finish showing some scattered light dings and minor flaking at the high edges. All of the serialized parts are matching including the wedge and the action functions crisply with solid timing and lockup. A very good 1858-made pocket Colt.
