serial #6741, 11 bore (about .750''), 28'' barrels with bright excellent bores. This fowler remains in very fine original condition and is of exceptional quality. The barrel rib is engraved ''W.W. GREENER NO. 48 DUKE STREET ST. JAMES & NO. 11 STRand LONDON''. The locks and hammers are engraved in relief scroll that is superbly executed. This same fabulous scroll is found at the breech end of barrels, on tang, triggerguard, buttplate tang and tailpipe. The nipples are set in recessed breeches with beautiful flared fences with platinum blow out plugs. The condition of the gun is very nice with the barrels retaining strong original twist pattern with the only thin areas being on sides of barrels just ahead of the locks where there is also some scattered light pitting, primarily on the right tube. The locks retain 85% original color case-hardened finish which is vivid in the more protected areas and a little more subdued in other areas. The stock is of wonderfully figured English walnut with checkered wrist and forend. The stock rates excellent with 90% plus original oil finish remaining and with crisp checkering. The triggerguard retains strong original blue on the bow with the balance bearing a smooth gray patina. The buttplate retains about 60% original blue with the balance being a smooth brown patina with screws still perfectly indexed. The original brass tipped ebony ramrod is present. The gun comes in its original burgundy baize lined walnut case with all partitions remaining firmly intact. Included accessories are a James Dixon leather covered powder flask with leather fully stitched and intact and with nice fire blue on the spring, a leather shot flask and a steel patch cutter marked ''10''. The condition of the case is excellent inside and out. A really lovely British double fowler. (18937-140) {ANTIQUE} [Cletus Klein Collection] (3000/5000) Sold For 4887.50
